The Evil Delusions of Eleanor Williams | Marks Unexplained World (Ep. 103)

Eleanor Williams is an English criminal who made false claims of multiple serious crimes, including accusations of trafficking, rape, blackmail, and physical violence, none of which were found to have occurred.
Following her 2022 trial, Williams was found guilty on nine counts of perverting the course of justice, contrary to English common law.
She was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison.
The fictitious claims spread by Williams on the internet had lasting impacts, including multiple attempted suicides, a rise in racially motivated violence, and the creation of the Online Safety Act 2023, which criminalises the spread of false, harmful information online.

The Camp Van Dorn Slaughter | Marks Unexplained World (Ep. 102)
The Camp Van Dorn Slaughter was a reported hoax popularized in a 1998 self-published book.
It is alleged that some 1200 members of the all-black 364th Infantry Regiment were killed in June 1943 by white soldiers at Camp Van Dorn, a U.S. Army installation near Centreville, Mississippi.
No hard evidence has ever been found to support the allegations, despite more than a year long investigation by the Department of Defence.
However, most observers have dismissed this "Hoax" claim, and as a result it is still enjoyed by conspiracy theorists everywhere.

The Lonely Hearts Killers | Marks Unexplained World (Ep. 101)
Raymond Fernandez and Martha Beck were an American serial killer couple.
They were convicted of one murder but are known to have committed two more and were suspected of having killed up to twenty victims during a spree between 1947 and 1949.
After their arrest and trial for serial murder in 1949, Fernandez and Beck became known as the Lonely Hearts Killers for meeting their unsuspecting victims through personal ads, posted in newspaper lonely hearts columns.

Pete the Poltergeist | Marks Unexplained World (Ep. 100)
Poltergeist activity can be a very disturbing phenomena, it can sometimes feel like an unruly child throwing a temper tantrum.
The staff at a small lawnmower repair shop in Cardiff witnessed this phenomenon more than once.
The disturbances were so regular, in fact, that they decided to give him the name of "Pete."
As time went by, the activity of "Pete the Poltergeist" became more and more apparent.

The Amherst Poltergeist | Marks Unexplained World (Ep. 98)
The Amherst poltergeist was a notorious case of reported poltergeist activity in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada between 1878 and 1879. The activity centred on Esther Cox, who lived in a house with her married sister Olive Teed, Olive's husband Daniel, and their two young children.
The phenomena continued for some months and became well known locally. Visitors to the cottage, including clergymen, heard banging and knocking and witnessed moving objects, often when Esther herself was under close observation.

The History of Skid Row | Marks Unexplained World (Ep. 97)
Skid Row is a neighborhood in Downtown Los Angeles.
The area is officially known as Central City East. Skid Row contains one of the largest stable populations (about 9,200–15,000) of homeless people in the United States and has been known for its condensed homeless population since at least the 1930s.
Its long history of police raids, targeted city initiatives, and homelessness advocacy make it one of the most notable districts in Los Angeles.

The Boston Molasses Disaster of 1919 | Marks Unexplained World (Ep. 96)
The Boston Molasses Disaster was a disaster that occurred on Wednesday, January 15, 1919, in the North End neighbourhood of Boston, Massachusetts.
A large storage tank filled with 2.3 million U.S. gallons of molasses, weighing approximately 12,000 metric tons, burst, and the resultant wave of molasses rushed through the streets at an estimated 35 miles per hour, killing 21 people and injuring 150.
The event entered local folklore, and residents reported for decades afterwards that the area still smelled of molasses on hot summer days.
